College Recruiting
Question
Hi! My name is Tara, I'm 5'5 (and hopefully still growing!!!), and I'm a sophomore in high school. I was a varsity starter last year (my first year), and I am the starting setter this year. I was also named co-capitan. This will be my second year of club and I am playing 18's (last year I played 16's). I am a very dedicated player, and would love more than anything to be able to play in college. I am planning on putting together a video (along with a a letter and a resume) to send out to potential schools in the near future (before this summer). I am also planning on attending at least one camp this summer. I have read about recruiting rules, I've read through many college rosters, and seen many DIV I games.
What should I be doing for myself right now, to improve my college playing chances?
What can I do to improve my vertical (I have no access to a gym)?
Thank you very much for your time!
Answer
To improve your college playing chances first you need to continue to be in the best shape you possibly can. Especially when it comes to endurance. So, even though you don't have a gym, you need to put some running time in.
Also, you need to get the word out about your aspirations. This means sending out as many videos to differnt colleges as you can. Here's what your video should include: http://volleyball.about.com/library/weekly/aa021210a.htm
As for your vertical, check out this article on jump training:

Hope this helps.
