Conditioning

Question -
I coach a high school girls team in a remote area. We only play 4 tournaments a year and then a provincial championship at the end of the season, (in Canada). The team is picked in early Sept and the season is over at the end of November. I am wondering how much time I should spend on conditioning. We practice 3 times a week and try to find some local women to play us once a week.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

How long are your 3 weekly practices? Do these girls play any other sports? You say you try to find some local women to play you once a week, in addition to your practice, or instead of a practice? I guess I would make your conditioning time proportionate to your practice time unless the girls ALL play in other sports year round and are in pretty good physical shape. Tough call because we practice every day for at least 2 hours.
Our practices are 2 hours long. Not all of the girls play other sports, but most of them play basketball, which is the season right after ours. We play the women instead of a practice. So we practice Mon, Wed, Thurs, and play on Tuesday.
Do you think I should spend any time at all with plyometrics? I just don't know how much we can get out of such a short season.
Answer
Marnie--
Sorry for the delay in my response. I've been busy with volleyball Fri & Sat. Sun. I spent the day trying to catch up on laundry and getting kids ready for school.
I'm inclined to say, anything is better than nothing when it comes to conditioning and plyometrics.
Good luck.
