setting + spiking
Question
I'd like some basic tips on setting and spiking.
also:
When setting, how long should your fingers be in contact with the ball?
When spiking, which part of the hand should hit the ball, and how should the arm move?
thanks!
Answer
Chris,
Sorry it took so long for me to get back to you but I am in season now and I have very little time on the computer.
When you set the ball needs to come right out of your hands. It depends on the ref...each ref has his/her own lift call but the faster the ball leaves your hands the better.
When you are attacking the ball you should have your whole hand on the ball, fingers spread and when you make contact your hand should be in front of your body so you can see the ball. On contact you want to try and snap your wrist so you get top spin on the ball and the ball will drop sooner to the court.
Any other questions feel free to email me.
Steve
