Beach/Grass Net Systems
Question
What are the best "Net Systems" for competitve recreational volleyball?
I am looking into a possible gift for my brother.
Answer
There are plenty of net systems that will handle games at levels higher than your backyard picnic. I wrote an article about generic nets requirements, http://volleyball.about.com/od/picturesandprograms/l/aa041297.htm
There are many different brands of complete systems for all types. The key to a good system is the pole and the guy wires. Net's are important, but can always be replaced. You want a system that can tighten the tension with a gear/pully system. Most good systems that will last will run $150 - 250.00 per set. That set should include, poles, suspension system, a top wire made of steel or graphite, a net with re-enforced boundaries around the edges, guy-wires, mounting equipment, sand-kits and boundary lines. This set should come in its own carrying bag.
Now I know that you are looking for a one-brand-answer. My personal favorite is the Cobra net system. It runs a little pricey at $345 but is the easiest to set up and because of its unique design uses no guy-wires for added safety. Any long-time outdoor player will tell you of the hazards of guy wires. You can check out their line at http://www.cobravolleyball.com Tell them Scott from About.com sent you. Maybe they will kick in a free t-shirt.
