Question
Why is a 3 person serve receive used by most high school teams, instead of the W formation ( 5 person serve receive) used by most middle school teams?

Answer
The less people you use to receive, the more you free-up to mount your attack.  Middle school players need all five because they are smaller physically and usually less skilled.  High School players are more experienced, bigger physically and can cover more court.
