going back
Question
I played volleyball for the first time in my life when I tried out for the 7th grade team. I made it, and became their setter. In 8th grade, I was again, the setter but they also had be being an outside hitter and I played back row as well. When I tried out for the 9th grade team, the coach cut me. About a week into practice, she came forward and apologized and asked me to be the JV setter. Stupid me, I was still too mad so I said no and that was the end of my volleyball career. Now that I am about to start my 2nd year of college, I really regret it. Miami University has a pretty good club team that I would like to try out for. My only plan thus far is to play around with my sister. She is a sophomore in HS and a middle hitter for the varsity team. I taught her everything I knew back when I was an active player. I obviously haven't really played in forever and I'd really like to get back into shape and back into vball. The only nets I know of in the area are at the HS but they take them down after practice/games/open gyms. Any ideas on how to get back into volleyball so I'll have a chance at the club team? Thanks!
Answer
There are a couple things you can do. You can contact your local USAV chapter by visiting www.usavolleyball.org and inquire about local clubs and places a person like yourself can find a game.
The other thing you can do is find one of the many local adult camps and get some formal instruction and back in the game. Bottom line is whether you go to a camp or hit up the local club you will find local players are usually very friendly and will bend over backwards to welcome in a new player that would like to learn more and develop skills.
