Libero/DS college height requirement?
Question
Hey!!
I play club and school volleyball. I have been a DS/Libero since I started volleyball in 7th grade because I was short. Well now I'm a sophomore and I have a passing average from the past 8 games of 2.5 or higher卋ut I'm only 5'4'' and I really want to play college ball. My coach said I could because of my skill level but my dad said that he doesn抰 see any 5'4'' liberos in college. So is there a certain height requirement to be a DS/Libero in college?
Thanks for the help!
Crystal
Answer
Crystal,
I don't want to tell you that your Dad is wrong BUT your Dad may be mistaken. If you go onto the Fordham University web site you will see we have a 5'2", 5'5" and a 5'6" libero/ds on our team. We only have one player at that position getting money but all three of these players will play some this season. All three will get the college athlete experiance.
If you keep on passing you will get noticed and you may have a chance to play at a Division I level. There are also hundreds of DII and DIII schools that are filled with shorter players.
Send me a tape at Fordham University (c/o Steve Hagenlocher) and I will look at it for you.
Good luck.
Steve
Sorry I had to tell you your father didn't know everything.
