Skills DVD Volleyball
Question
My daughter is a senior and wants to make a skills video. She plays Middle Hitter/Blocker on her HS team and Outside Hitter for her club team. What does she need to include on her skills tape? How long should it be? Does she need to include a full game at the end of the DVD besides her skills?
Thanks, Pam
Answer
Pam,
The first thing I want to see on a skills tape is how your daughter can hit all the sets. As a middle she needs to tape herself hitting (some or all of the following sets) 1's, 2's, 3's slides, back 1's and hitting out of the back row. Have her hit 10-20 times (don't edit the hits but if she does poorly do them over). As an outside hitter she needs to be able to pass and play defense. So she needs to do some drills that will show how well she can do these skills. We also like to see how a player serves. If she can jump serve show that and if she can hit zones and serve short show that also. Coaches like to see game video. Don't edit the video.......if she leaves that game stop the video and start it again as she is entering the game. The length is not that important 20-30 minutes is fine. Many coaches can tell in a minute or two if a player is good or not so make sure the first couple of minutes is made up of good volleyball.
Good luck.
