Are left-handed people shown approaches, serving, foot position for passing, etc. differently? It seems awkward to do it all the same as a righty.

Yes you should do hit and serve the opposite way.  You should pass and serve receive the same way everyone else does.

When hitting outside you have to take a straight on approach, when hitting opposite you need to angle your approach (like the right handed outside hitter does.)
