Defense
Question
I am looking to run a "middle up" defense with my team. I am only familiar with it by playing against teams who used it. My questions are what are the rotations for the different hits and also do you recommend the setter or right side to be the middle up girl?
Answer
Carrie,
The setter AND right side are the players who play the middle up position when they are in the back row. My understanding (and we've only played against teams twice that do this) is that the middle up player follows the ball from the middle out. Both the wing players play deep corners and the middle up player has tips, rolls and touches. You have to make sure that your Opposite has setter hands because if she does not your opponents will send every ball to your setter for your Opposite to set.
Good Luck,
Steve
