skills tapes for DS/L
Question
My daughter is interested in playing as a DS or L at the college level. A coach
she has been in contact with would like a skills tape. What should be included?
Thanks,
Barb
Answer
Barb,
Your daughter needs to show she can pass, serving would be helpful but not nearly as important as passing.
Set the camera up behind your daughter in a three person serve receive (if possible) and have her serve receive to a target along with her two teammates. The reason for a three person SR is because most colleges use this type of SR and this way the coach can watch her move to balls that are hers, instead of diving all over the court for every serve. Then show her playing defense in the MB (zone 6) and the LB (zone 5) positions. Set up the camera so that the coach can see her footwork and where every pass goes.
If she is a good server have her serve and serve to zones. The best zones to serve are 1, 5 and anything short (within the 10' line)
Then put her best passing game on the tape (unedited).
Good luck,
Steve
