Volleyball positions on the court
Question
i want to know the positions and rotation of the volley ball players
Answer
Good morning!
Thank you for visiting www.allexperts.com.
Your question is pretty broad! It's like asking the history expert her at allexperts, "Can you teach me about the Civil War?" Whoa!
As for the rotations.....you'll have to be more specific. I don't exactly know what you're talking about.
I can tell you the names of the positions, if this is what you want. The following are the positions that most teams use.
Outside Hitter (OH). These girls switch to the left side of the court when in the front row as soon as possible. This is called their base position. Their primary function is passing/digging/hitting.
Middle Blocker (MB). These girls switch to the middle of the court when in the front row at base. Their primary function is blocking/hitting. Some coaches call this position Middle Hitter.
Setter (S). The name tells the story. These girls take as many 2nd hits as possible. Normally, their base position is on the right side of the court. This evolved b/c most hitters are right handed, and it's easier to hit a ball that doesn't have to cross your body. Their primary function is setting/digging.
Defensive Specialist (DS). These girls play back row only. They may play any back row position. They are often small, but don't have to be. They are just better diggers/passers than their front row teammates.
Libero (L). These girls play back row only, but don't have to come out for 3 rotations like a DS does. The Libero can go in the back row, come out for 1 rally, then immediately go back in for any other back row players. She has several restrictions, and you can read all about them in a previous answer.
Opposite or Right Side Hitter (Opp or RSH). This is a girl who plays opposite the setter. She often plays on the right side of the court when at base. If a coach has a left-handed girl, she often will try to master this position, b/c the set will be easier to hit.
You will see other positions that these on some teams. Many times, the coach has invented names for positions that really don't fit into the categories above. Hey, when I was a first year coach, I didn't know WHAT to call my players. I may not have even called them anything except setters & hitters. haha
What else can I do for you?
