Pass 2 or Pass 3 offense

I was at a college club scrimmage the other day and someone mentioned their team wanted to run a pass 2 (offense). He said they were not experienced enough for that and they should run a pass 3 (offence). What was he talking about?

I'm not 100% sure what you're talking about, but I am 90% sure.  

I would guess a "pass 2" offense is where a team only has 2 players doing all the serve reception.  Do you think this is right?  Then, of course, a "pass 3" is where the team receives serve with three people.
