Where i should start my outside approach
Question
For starters im 17 and 6,4 with a 31.7inch vertical, i also start my approach from the deep 5 and a few steps outside the court,My question is were should i start my outside approach when spiking? I've seen players start theres from all over and was wondering where would be the optimal for power and placement.

Good morning! Thank you for visiting www.allexperts.com!
You say you start from deep 5 and a few steps outside the court. I don't think I would do any different.
If you're right-handed and hitting from the left side, you want to come in at about 30 to 40 degrees off of perpendicular. This gives you the best option of hitting cross or hitting line. You can hit line using the advanced technique of turning your thumb, or the less advanced technique turning your torso toward the line after jumping.
Also, don't forget that "your belly-button faces your setter" throughout your footwork, and it doesn't turn away from the setter until after you jump. This will also allow you to hit cross and line w/o tipping off the blockers.
I have no issue whatsoever with what you've described. Are you doing the same when you hit from the middle? You should! From the right? You should not.
