How much should the Libero play?
Question
What is the average playing time for a libero? Is it normal to only rotate in for 1 player or is it typical to rotate in for several players? I would think if they are only rotating in for 1 player, then they might as well be playing DS. Thanks for you answer

Welcome Sandy to www.allexpert.com.
I have answered several other questions about liberos here, but none like yours.
I completely agree with what you said. Hey, you are all over this volleyball stuff. I don't have much more to add.
When I pick a libero, I want her to be quick, one of the best passers on my team, a reader of the hitters, a hustler, etc. She doesn't have to be the team captain, loud, etc. There's just a "Libero mentality" that I'm looking for. There is a girl on my team this season with just that mentality. She's GREAT!!
My libero plays as much as possible. And my MB's are just accustomed to coming out for the libero b/c that's what they did in school ball.
I'm thinking.....I can only remember a few times when I've taken my libero out or not put her in for half the game. Those were teams where my libero really wasn't that much better than the girl who came out. Those were teams where I didn't have anyone with "the mentality".
However, i don't think I would ever not have a girl dressed as a libero, unless I only had 7 girls and that 7th one wasn't a good passer. The libero on the bench gives the coach the flexibility of taking any back row player out, not just the tall MB. Now, if I have a large team and don't have one special girl with "the mentality," I may just dress a different 2nd team girl as libero every night. Again, just to be able to make a quick switch, w/o burning up all my subs.
