rule on net calls

Question
QUESTION: im in a vball league and the same 2 questions always pop up.
1. what exactly is an inadvertant net call?
2. if after a serve and the pass goes into the net can a member of the other team without hitting the net put their hands up by the net then causing the miss hit ball after it hits the net and goes into your hands by that you deflect the ball so they can not have a good 2nd hit. you dont touch the net but the ball hits the net then hits your hands. ty for your help

ANSWER: Let me tell you this question is correct but may have many answers because of the situations.
I'm going to explain this in a way like if I would explain it to someone who has never played Volleyball to help me think of a better answer.

Quick Review for you newbies of course you can cannot attack the second hit unless (1) the setter cannot reach the ball (2) the ball is starting to go into your side (3) a bad set behind or in front of the setter on top of the net like a joust and (4) if the setter is in the back row and he/she jumps to set the ball, then you can make an attempt to block the ball since the setter is coming from the back row.

1. If the net is loose, this must be stated by the coach and or captain before the start of a game.  By not doing this you will have a very bad day with bad calls. How do you test it? Stand on the 10ft. line if you throw the ball to the middle of the net and the ball falls straight down or the net  caused the ball to land in the opponents side then it is going to cause a lot of bad calls by the official.

2. The rule states that (Ex.) when a ball is served to your side and a bad pass is given to the setter where the ball is going straight to the net and the setter will at no cost be able to reach the net in time then once this has been noticed by the official , you can accidently touch the net with your shirt, hair, and possiblly even your hands and the ball will still be called dead.

3. If after the pass to the setter you reach up to block the ball thinking it is going to come over your side, you can do this if the setter is no where near to get the ball, or if your hands go straight up and with the power of the 2nd pass coming so fast that it hits the net and the net touches your hands then that is also okay.

4. If you raise your hands and the 2nd pass goes towards the top of the net and the setter cannot get the ball and the ball hits both your hands and half of the net on their side then they will call it because you made an attempt to get the ball. Becasue the ball is half way touching the net and you hit the ball without touching the net and only the top of the ball, most likely the officals will call a net on your behalf. This why it is better on these types of plays to block straight up and not go into the opponents side because too many bad calls will be called. Usually  the blocker smiles because they know they touched the net in a way that  all the fans saw them touch the net.

QUESTION: thanks for your answer but was asking is the bad pass hits the middle of the net can you stick your hands out and not touch the net but by the ball hitting the net and pushing into you hands you purposely redirect the ball so there is no chance to dig it up.

ANSWER: Okay to make sure I understand what you are asking. Your opponent receives the ball, on the 2nd hit, the ball goes into the middle of the net. You are close to the net, because the ball has a lot of velocity and you know that the net is loose a little to where it will get close to you.
You then think let me extend any part of my body to where the ball touches me with the net without me touching the net. When you do this, the ball changes direction and the other team argues that the ball accidently touched you and because of this they lost a chance to do something with that particular play.
I think this is what you are asking.

The rule is that if by what ever you did affected the outcome of a play then they should of have called an inadvertent call.

Example: If you are running out to save a ball and your opponents coach yells "Watch It", and it affects you getting the ball. Then an inadvertent call should of been called because it affected the outcome of the play. A replay should of been called only because the coach has a gain in the situation.

Did the other team you were playing got affected because of your unintentional hit, yes so it should of have been called as an "inadvertent call".

It also depends on the league you play for and your coaches association. ex, visit www.avca.org

QUESTION: so either the first or second hit if i extend my hands out and let the balland net hit my hands in the net middle or lower it is called inadvertant net cause the net hit me not me hitting the net is that right even though i did change the direction of the ball ty

Answer

Exactly, but the problem here is the major way this will happen is if the net is loose or you are purposely to close to the net. Why would you extend your hands out knowing that the ball is coming straight at you and in the middle of the net? Most people will either not move, move to the side, or take a step back (more common) then to try to influence the other teams actions.

There used to be other inadvertent calls, but teams started arguing about the calls so they starting making a "name" for those inadvertent calls. Example when you serve, nobody from your team who is also in the back row can be in front of you while you serve the ball. Or some teams have their 3 tall blockers in the middle while the server serves right in front of them.

Inadvertent calls were made because just like the NFL not all rules have been totally either named and or experienced.

Ex. Rule - no one in the front row can block a serve. Opposite of rule but legal - if you are in the front rule and  the server throws the ball up into the air, you can get behind the 10 ft. line and back to the net before the ball is actually hit  by the server  then you can actually block the ball. Again they might call this an inadvertent call or illegal block depending on where you play.

My suggestion, any time you can not interfere with the other teams chances of making a play try not to do it.

My experience    -     When the setter used to try to save a ball coming towards me and the ball would hit in the middle of the net I would yell "yes" and at the same time clap hard. This would sometimes break the concentration of the setter and at the same time make me look like 揑 was celebrating a point too early? So there was no problem. Try doing that instead

Hopefully  this helps
