QuestionHi Mr. Houser, I'd just thought I'd let you know first off i'm not one of those people who ask a question and don't take the time to read your emails. I'm in desperate need of volleyball advice, but first let me tell you a little about myself
I'm a Sophmore in High School, and I play volleyball for school and club. I'm 5'9" (probably 10" now) and I play mostly front row. I'm very committed to this sport but I need to improve on my hitting and i'm not sure how. There's times where I can have a perfect hit continuously, and then I just have my days where I can't even pass right. I was wondering if you knew any drills I should work on to improve my hitting and passing during club season? And also, is there any stretches you recommend?
Thanks so much!

AnswerHey Geneva:
Welcome to allexperts! Funny that you said, "I not one of those" b/c I just reminded two people to read my answer........that was sent to them about a month ago. haha
I'm going to ask you to do something radical (with your parent's permission). I'm going to ask you to send me a DVD of you hitting and passing. Why? B/c I can't really tell you anything about either unless I can see it. Why? I've been coaching/watching vball for 25 years. Some girls don't hit well b/c of their lack of athleticism. Some don't hit well b/c they have a flaw in their armswing! Some girls don't pass well b/c of their athleticism. But many many many have obvious correctable flaws: They poke, or they pray, or they "chop wood," or they scoop, or they fly, etc. I give private lessons on Sat %26 Sun nights, and I see this all the time!
If you'll email me at
[email protected], then I will send you my mailing address. Then after I watch you play for 5 minutes (yep, that's all I need), then I'll be able to give you my opinion on your situation.
You don't have to answer me back. If your parents say, NO WAY, then that's cool. But I don't see how anyone can help you w/o seeing what you're doing.
Have a great Thanksgiving and please visit me at www.coachhouser.com. My club team was just selected on Sunday, and WOW are we going to have a lot of fun!
