Standing reach, vertical, approach reach
Question
I am 6 foot and a setter, What is considered to be a good standing reach, vertical and approach for someone of my height?
Answer
Hello Jessy and welcome to www.allexperts.com!
Standing reach for someone your height will be around 7'4". That's approximately the height of the net.
Vertical, of course, varies greatly! A average vertical for a fit high school vball player: 17". Good: 20" Very good: 23" Above that and the girl can just soar! I thought my stepdaughter could jump in high school, but whoa, has D1 college conditioning made her Air Lauren!
Approach reach for someone your height will be 7'4" + vertical + a little more b/c you're doing a spike approach. So if you reach 7'4" and have a 17" vertical and add 3 more inches from you spike approach, then your approach reach is 9'! I have yet to coach a girl who can grab the basketball rim. But the best athletes I've coached can get half way up the net. That would be 9'6".
Would you mind responding back and telling me your #'s! I'm looking forward to hearing from you.
