QuestionMy daughter is a talented outside hitter but the team she plays on is struggling. Will this diminish her chances of getting noticed by a college? She really wants to play in college and go on to be a coach.
AnswerGood afternoon and welcome to www.allexperts.com!
I can tell you the answer to your question is a definite NO!
However, there are a few things your daughter needs to do....not doing this will greatly reduce her chances of playing college ball (more than playing on a weak team!)
a) Does she play club ball? I'd say 99% of women on college teams play club.
b) Does she have the grades and is she taking the classes to get her into college.
c) If she is a junior/senior, has she made her college skills tape and sent it off?
d) And if she's a jr/sr, has she been spending a few hours each week researching colleges so that she knows where she wants to go? (I just texted a girl reminding her of that very thing. We agreed to 1.5 hours a week.)
e) Has she been emailing college coaches? (This answer is reminding me of a lot of things! haha I just remembered to email and call a college coach for one of my players.)
f) Finally, does she have the character, the work ethic, commitment, etc. to get through the next few years.
Several years ago, a girl from a very weak high school program got a scholarship at James Madison University here in Roanoke. Her parents would ask the same thing you are asking. How can it be possible? Well, when she was a soph, she came to Roanoke, she made our top 16's team, by the end of the season she has progressed tremendously....... then she fulfilled her dream.
So, regardless of the quality of your school team, if your daughter is a very good player, AND she can make a very good club team, AND if she maintains strong grades and takes challenging classes, AND possesses the necessary character, etc., she will be fine.
