QuestionTom,
My daughter Bridget (12 years old) just finished playing her first time on the 7th grade volleyball team. She can serve pretty well, it was rare for her not to make the serve in bounds and over net. She does competitive gymnastics and has great upper body strength, good coordination and has quick responses. She wants to learn how to jump serve. Are there any suggestions for her to practice at home.
Thank you for any suggestions.
AnswerGood evening Dean and welcome to www.allexperts.com!
I have looked and looked for an answer to your question that in on-point. But cannot. So here goes!
First, Iwant you to learn a jump serve from someone who KNOWS how to do it. Find a coach or a high school girl to teach it to you. Don't DON'T DON'T just make one up. Sure, if you make one up, you'll be pretty good at it eventually. But if you'll learn a normal jump serve, one that adults teach, then you'll perfect it MUCH quicker! Also, if you learn a normal jump serve, then a coach won't have to force you to re-learn one as you get older.
Second, you're right to have your daughter try to learn this at her age ... IF she is able. And, from what you're telling me, I think she is.
Third, instead of me typing a four-page detailed description on how to jump serve, I want you to email me at
[email protected], so I can send you several videos of my stepdaughter jump serving. She just finished playing 4 years of D1 vball at Radford University, and she jump served from the 10th grade until she finished playing. If your daughter will copy her form/technique, then she will be just fine.
If anyone else would like these videos, just say so!
And I hope you have time to visit me at www.coachhouser.com! The smiling faces will brighten your day!
Hope you have a great week!
