Questionthis is going to be my first year as girls volleyball head coach.my daughter is on the team as a junior along with ten other girls.at the end of the season the coach picks one mvp and three all stars.the same girl gets it every year and no doubt is a good player but not a team player no one on the team cares for her to much.my job is to pick someone this year but i would like to change it up a bit like not only best athlete but best teamate also or use some kind of point system through the season.practice starts next week and i would like to present them with something to give them all an equall chance at mvp.
thank you
AnswerGood afternoon and welcome to www.allexperts.com!
a) you never asked me a question! haha
b) even though having your daughter being the MVP is probably not your top priority, this may appear to others to be your intent. Be careful! This idea may have to be spear-headed by someone other than you.
c) how is the MVP selected? A new coach also should be careful changing traditions.
d) do you HAVE to pick an MVP? If so, really? why? Why not consider just skipping it until your daughter has graduated. Just name all-stars.
e) point system would be tough. -1 for talking back to coach? -2 for yellow card. +1 for being on time to practice? This is hard.
f) An equal chance at MVP? I don't see how that's possible. Your best 2 or 3 players will be the MVP. It's the most valuable. If you want to scrap it and give three or four "Outstanding Player" awards, then fine. The seniors get "Senior Awards," while others get most hustle, most spirit, most commitment, etc. I don't see how everyone can be in the running for MVP.....unless you change the name to "Best Teammate Award" or "Best Team Player".
Does that help any?
