Question
Could you help me understand what these number's mean. My daughter is 12 and is 6'0 1/2 and her coach just gave me these numbers for recruit profile. Standing reach 7'10,Block jump 8'10 and the Approach jump 9'11.
Answer
Good evening Kimberly!
Welcome to www.allexperts.com! It's great to hear from you.
The numbers are actually just what they say.
Standing reach: This is how high your daughter's finger tips will reach when she is just standing on the floor.
Block jump: This is how high your daughter's finger tips will reach when she stand, squats, then jumps (as if she were blocking an opponent).
Approach jump: And finally, this is how high your daughter can reach when she does her spike approach.
I've been coaching 25 years (school ball 18, club ball 20) and have yet to coach a girl who can tough the bball rim. But your daughter is only a few months away from that, and she's 12. This will get any college coach's attention! In this area of the country, we call a person like that "a freak". haha.
