QuestionI play on a team where I only get an average of 30 touches on the ball during a tournament compared to some girls who get 230 touches so I was wondering how the stats taken would be considered fair? If I only have a few minutes of playtime and I make 1 error that 100% error. Some girls make several errors but they have much more chances to make kills and aces. During practices my stats are just about perfect because I get the opportunity to show what I can do.
AnswerGood evening Ashleigh and welcome to www.allexperts.com!
I want to ask you some questions b/c I've never met you. Please do not interpret these questions as me being mean. I'm not trying be mean, but I'm just trying to get a better understanding of your situation.
And please please don't interpret my questions as I don't believe what you're telling me. I have no reason to not believe you. Again, these questions are only meant to pinpoint what's going on.
Ready?
a) Does the coach announce these stats? If so, how does he do it? Does he post them at practice? Announce them out loud? Post them on a website?
b) Who keeps these stats? An assistant? A coach? A parent?
b) What do you mean "just about perfect"?
c) If your stats are just about perfect, why don't you play more?
e) Why are you so concerned about them? For college coaches? B/c you're embarrassed?
If you can tell me any more about your concerns, that would be awesome!
Here's a little story: Just this weekend, someone on my team asked me (in private, respectfully) so questions about their teammates.... b/c they love each other. Some were in tears. "Janice makes 1 or 2 errors and she gets taken out. Jolene makes 10 and she stays in." It was very mature of one of the other players to say, "Well, Janice may make 10 kills/aces for each 10 mistakes, while Jolene may make 40 kills/aces for each 10 mistakes." I was like "Exactly. On nearly every team, there are some girls who almost never get taken out of the game. Those are the girls who have proven month after month that they will almost always come out way ahead in the kills/aces to errors ratio. Other girls who play less, prove month after month that they don't come out as far ahead."

Hope to hear from you soon!
