Moved down from 16-2 to 15-2... but I want to be sure Im being challenged

Question
Ok, so i tried out for the 16-2 club team for a local volleyball club and i made it. But then i got move down to the 15-2 team since my high school coach wanted me on his team, to be a team leader. Now he's a good coach and everything, but the level of play of some of the girls is very low compared to the other team. so im afraid i wont get any better as a player. what do you think i should do about it?

Answer
Good evening!
Welcome to www.allexperts.com!  It's great to hear from you.
I want you to know that I've coached club ball every year but one since 1991.  I've had to deal with dozens of tryouts, creating hundreds of teams.  Here are your option.

Option #1:  Accept what you're given.
I don't think that's an option you like.  :)

Option #2:  Try to get back on the 16-2 team.
Have your parents ask the people in charge to move you back to the 16's team.   I encourage you to have your parents do it b/c adult to adult works better.   This is what I would recommmend your parents do:  (a) give them really good reasons why you want to move to 16's (b) be nice (c)  be stern.  For example, "No, playing 15's is not good for my daughter's improvement. We really don't care if her coach wants leadership.  He can get other girls to lead.  We want our daughter to improve.  If she's good enough to be on the 16-2 team, that's where we want her."

After all this is over, you will probably still be on the 15's team.  :(    This is b/c all of the 16's and 15's teams are now formed and finished.  Moving a girl off of 15's (now that team doesn't quite have enough players) and up to 16's (now that team has too many players) probably won't happen.

Option #3:  Tell them you will either play 16's or not play at all.
This is VERY risky.  It's like, "You will sell us that car for $5000, or we won't buy it."  And the salesman says, "Fine," and sells it to someone else.   YIKES!  Now the car is gone!  And... the club director may tell you the same thing:  "Fine. We'll find someone else to take that 15-2 spot."

My advice:  I would go with Option #2.  Ask your parents to be a nice (yet as forceful and determined) as they think they can.  Your problem is not odd.  It happens every year at your club, where a girl is put on a team that she feels is beneath her potential.

Please let me know how it goes.

The silver lining:  If you do end up on the 15's team, that's better than being cut.  And there are still options:
* You can also ask that 16's team if you can come to their practices!
* You can also ask the top 15's team the same question!
* You will be the leader of the 15-2 team.... that's pretty nice that your coach has that much confidence in you.

I now have one favor to ask you!
