running plays

Hi,

I wanted to know how do you go about setting up different plays, choosing which ones to run, ex. running slide plays effectively, when to call them and if you should have a set of standard plays ran off of a freeball for each rotation. I also noticed multiple books on your site which one would you recommend for an elite club 14u volleyball team. Thanks in advance.

To make sure that all my readers young and old can understand some of my comments, I have chosen to use simple vocabulary words and interpret the rule for this sole purpose.

Well Alicia first let me start with this, any team can have as many plays as they want to but unfortunately your team can only memorize so many plays. These practiced plays would have to be practiced a large number of times for them to be effective.

"When someone shows you a complicated puzzle to do and you think "oh my god this is impossible to do". But then when they show you how to do it you would probably say "That was so easy". In my system you are giving your opponents these puzzles and never telling them the answers plus you keep giving them new types of puzzles one after the other." Tovar

In all my books, you learn the system, decode the plays in about 2 seconds and run them.

All these plays are designed for three reasons:
1. To make the blockers commit or loose a point if they don't.
2. To hit in angles in which regular defenses(90% of the world)are not used to covering.
3. To give each hitter one blocker to no blockers per play.

Learning the system it'self holds the three secrets to decoding any plays.
1. If you added 100's of more plays to your system(up to 7,000)and you would call a play you just added a few seconds ago and called it, everybody on the team will be able to run that play without previously practicing it. The system has three secrets and without them the book is useless.
2. The plays are three letters each ex. TER back row players are 5 letters ex. 7E-TER. Oh yes I forgot to tell you. Besides the three different types of back row plays, every play will tell everyone(front players and back row player) what every one should do for that play.

Now let me answer every single part of your sub-questions.

1. How do you go about setting up different plays? & Set of standard plays for each rotation?

There are 16 different play types. I usually tell everyone to have HOME PLAYS. HOME PLAYS are those plays that allows you to use all the 16 types of play types in a game and in practice.

Example: I will give Jessica 5 home plays significant to the our system. EAT,TEA,ATT,SAT, & TAS
This will be Jessica's home plays for the rest of the year. You can change them from game to game.
During a game Coach says to Jessica "Run your home plays" before any serve Jessica calls out EAT, on the next serve she calls TEA and so on until she has called every one of her home plays. She can continue if you want to re do them again. You give everyone on the team whether they always play, they are on the bench, or only play defense, you give them all 5-10 home plays. The coach also can call or show the play to the players by a dry erase board for 2 -3 seconds. The book is 90% illustrations on learning the entire system. It also has many pages with extra secrets on how to use every section of this book more effectively. In these sections, it shows you how to run 3 home plays after each FREE BALLS, DINKS, etc. You choose the plays to run for any situation.

2. Which plays do I run & when to call them.
Start with your home plays because as a coach you can choose up to 100 home plays per game even though it will only take 5-7 plays to win a whole tournament.

I also show you how to separate the plays into four categories.
A. If the blockers are great to the left side then use these types of plays.
B. If the blockers are great to the right side then use these types of plays.
C. If the blockers are great in the middle side then use these types of plays.
D. If the blockers are great throughout the net then use these types of plays.
Basically let the other team feel the play weapons that you have. They will be very confused.
Important: each play is actually three plays in one you'll see.

My biggest mistake is that I labeled the systems as Basic, Advanced , PRO and Specialties. I should have just labeled them as Fun Plays, Fun Plays II, Fun Plays III & Fun Plays IV because that is what they really are.

The Basic Systems that start with EB-300 do not have back row plays but it does show illustrations on you how to add them to your play grids. All other systems have them included.
