Answer
Good evening Palak:
Welcome to www.allexperts.com!
I have been coaching my 15 girls team all weekend, so I'm a little slow in answering emails today.
I know the USAV rule book and the National Federation rule book. Both of them presently say that a foot dig, regardless of intentional or unintentional, is (a) a legal contact and (b) the digger's team still has two more contacts remaining.
Now, I have never read/coached/played under the FIVB rule book. So, maybe, there's a chance that it's different; but, I've seen a lot of international volleyball, and I would guess the rules are the same.
So, the debate is over! A kick is just one of the team's 3 touches.
I hope that you have a moment to visit us at www.coachhouser.com. I think you will love the teams, the lessons, and the smiling faces!
