Libero lineup and replacement
Question
Q1 - I know the libero can serve one rotation. My question is, when the other middle serves, must she go out, and can she return immediately after that rally?
Q2 - When making out the lineup for serve receive. Do I NOT list the libero if I want her to serve first? In other words, I would list one of the middle's in the "2" spot in the lineup?
Thank you very much
Answer
Good afternoon Owen!
Welcome to www.allexperts.com. It's great to hear from you.
Before I go on: I'm assuming that you're using the National Federation rule book? If that's not the case, then the answers below won't necessary be accurate, and please re-email me with the rule book you're using.
Q1: Yes, the libero can serve for one person.
Let's say she's serving for a MB. Then she stays in for that MB, until her position rotates to the front row. MB2 then serves. (Your libero cannot serve for her!) The libero must stay out for one rally....so if you want her to play for your MB2, she may enter as soon as MB2's serve is broken. If you want her to play for another back row player, she may enter as soon as the rally initiated by MB2's first serve has ended.
Q2: This is my 2nd year not reffing high school ball. But, the last year I reffed high school vball, there was no where on the lineup sheet to indicate who the libero would be serving for. The libero can be called upon to serve her first ball whenever her coach instructs, at any time during the set; however, for the rest of that set, she may ONLY serve in that spot in the lineup. So, in other words, you can delay her serving for nearly the entire set....your team have rotated 10 or 15 times....then, at any time, she can serve for whomever you choose. It doesn't have to be predetermined. She's almost like a relief pitcher in baseball....you can use her, or not use her. It's your choice. I hope that this is clear. If not, please follow-up.
Oh, I googled "NF Lineup Sheet" and found this: http://www.nfhs.com/popup.aspx?src=images/Product/large/581.jpg And, still, there is no where to indicate who the libero is to serve for.
