Volley Lineup
Question
Hello Coach,
Our first game is tomorrow. I have 8 ten year old girls in a league of 10 to 12 year old girls. We are the new team so we get the girls moving up from the younger league. Needless to say the deck is stacked this year.
I do have girls that can serve well. The main issue is returning the ball off the opponents serve. They have trouble judging long balls (first year exposed to overhand serving)and some still seem to be very tentantive when trying to return a ball. They are always reaching instead of moving their feet forward. So the ball goes short off the end of their fingers.
Besides all these things I am trying to help them with I am struggling myself with the best lineup strategy to bring out the best in the team. Do I put my best players up front, on the back line, or do I try to balance the court the best I can. Is there a strategy as to whether you put your best servers first, maybe put my worst back court players up front? I am lost myself at this point.
I know if I can keep these girls together for 3 years then we will be the stacked team but for now we are ten and new in this league. I myself don't expect to win against these experienced teams but I don't want my girls to be blown out so that it discourages them. And I know say I don't expect to win may be the wrong attitude but I have watched the other teams in our league and they are really skilled. I would never tell my girls these thoughts though.
Any tips would greatly help. Thanks Coach!

Hey Joe sorry about the wait. I was creating a lineup for you but then I remembered that I had already had the line up that you should know.
I also had given advice about players that had a similar problem with receiving.
Please see both links and hopefully this will help.
Please ask other questions so that I can help you as best I can.
