Setting/Serving/Team help
Question
Hello,
I'm a 15 year old girl and I played on my JV team this year, but the thing is, I wasn't a starter all year. I was in the begining of the year as my primary postition setter when all of a sudden my coach put in a different girl. We play a 6-2 and I was so upset! Our season just ended and I want to know ways to fix my setting to perfect them. I know one problem I got because of this is when I set sometimes it spins, that needs to go and I don't know what I am doing when it does because most or the time it does not spin. Please explain the best way to get high perfect sets for a outside, middle, and even opposite hitter set and perfecting my 1 set (middle hitter). Also my serving, I love to serve and I am quite good at it. I was able to jump serve even when I was 13 yet everytime I go into a season, they always tell me to stop and perfect a float serve, now that I have, my jump serve has crumbled.. I know two ways of jump serving, one where you throw the ball up high with the arm you will be hitting it with and another where it's like a normal float except with added steps and a jump. What is the best way to make my jump serve great for me (I'm 5'5", 115 lbs) and keep a perfect float/top spin too without messing up on my jump serves. Lastly, my last question is team help. I live in SW Las Vegas (near Summerlin) and cannot find any volleyball club teams. If you could please help with with finding a nontravel team in Las Vegas that is not in the North or on the complete other side of town because my parents will not drive me for an hour three times a week to play on a club team sadly. I know I asked three questions, but I trully appreciate all the help!!!! You will help my make my volleyball career go well. Here's my volleyball recruiting page if you need more details on height, skill, etc http://recruit-match.ncsasports.org/clientrms/profile/recruiting_profile/1081061
Answer
Hello Fieven and welcome to www.AllExperts.com
My name is Coach Tovar
Well Fieven I have posted the three questions in three areas.
Question 1 - Settng
I have answered a question on how to be a better setter before. Here is the link to my answer.
http://en.allexperts.com/q/Volleyball-2234/2011/10/setting-4.htm
Quick setting response - the reason the ball spins when you set it is that you are rotating the ball with your fingers and or your wrist is causing the ball to turn.
When a ball is set forward, the wrist should only come down and outward towards the hitter. If you are setting the ball backwards then the wrist will slightly turn and point backwards.
Question 2 - Serving
You can perform a jump float serve. The secret to this serve is in the placement of the air valve.
Please visit my website where I described "Floater Secrets Revealed."
You can also learn over 31 volleyball serves that will updated in the next few months.

Question 3 - Las Vegas Club Teams
http://www.scvavolleyball.org/girls_listings_nevada.htm
Here is a list of all the registered volleyball clubs in Las Vegas. Their phone numbers are listed so that you can call and see if they travel and if you can be on the team but not travel.
I hope this answers your question.
