Over reaching
Question
I am a setter, a tall one, when a a player over receives a ball near the net, i tried to set it with one hand, while holding the ball an opponent player hit it...isn't that over reaching even if it is almost in the middle of the net (our side)?
Answer
Hello Pepper and welcome to www.AllExperts.com
My name is Coach Tovar
Well Pepper this is a question of inches.
On the second hit only, if the setter is attemping to set the ball with two hands, one hand ( top of hand, wrist area, or any other part of the hand) the defensive player cannot penetrate not even an inch over the net to block the ball.
My Banana Set Theory
If the setter is sideways to the net and is holding a banana by the point straight up to where the banana is not passing over the net then there can not be any penetrating.
If the setter is sideways to the net and is holding a banana by the middle where the other side of the banana is over the net then yes there can be a block.
In review, if the blocker goes and blocks straight up and the ball touches his/her hands then the block is correct.
In your situation it is considered a fault and the ref will make a signal while bringing his/her arm over the net from right to left.
I hope this answers your question.
