Fastpitch vs slowpitch bats

2016/7/15 18:02:15

Question
Could you tell me what the difference between a fastpitch bat and a slowpitch bat are?  Can you use a Fastpitch bat in men's slowpitch softball?

Answer
Hello Glenn

As far as I know fast pitch bats are perfectly legal in all slo-pitch associations

Fast pitch bats offer a larger hitting surface and the lower weights allow the bats to be swung faster. The fast pitch bats are lightweight to allow hitters to get it around quicker but the bats generally are not as durable. It's been my experience that even slow pitch bats get less durable as they get lighter.

In fast pitch the batters don't have to generate their own power, in slow pitch you have to. That's why fast pitch bats are lighter, to generate bat speed. If you use a fast pitch bat for slo-pitch I would not go below a 25 oz.
