A type (or style?) of Bunting

2016/7/15 17:59:44

Question
There have been several players using a certain technique when batting that almost looks like a drag bunt. When the pitch is released the batter runs forward in the box holding the bat at the top of the strike zone.  On contact there is very little swing per say, and typically the ball lands in shallow outfield or line drives up the middle.
Is there a "name" for this or a way to learn and teach the technique?

Answer
It's a slap bunt. Basically it's the some motion as a drag bunt.

Surprise bunt for base hit
Sometimes called the 揅alifornia Slap?
Position deep in batters box
Don't commit until pitcher releases the ball
Crossover step with back foot
Keep the bat head BACK
Maintain chin to shoulder contact
If front shoulder turns toward first base, ball will be hit foul
Extend arms to V on contact
"Chop" ball down
Keep the head down

Double threat  -- the batter reads the defense -- if they play or creep up expecting the bunt the batter slaps the ball pass them or over them. If they stay back she lays the ball down in front of them.

Look for videos the girl fast pitch with batting techniques used for the short game (bunting, slapping, drag bunting).
