Reestablishing good fielding after accident?

Question
Hey there,
Not too long ago, while playing shortstop, I was fielding a ball hit in the hole to my right side. While trying to get in front of the ball as much as I can, I had to use the backhand and on the second bounce the ball took a bad hop, jumped over my glove and hit me square in the face breaking my nose. Even though I jumped "back on the horse" the very next week, my fielding has been average at best, while before it was excellent. I find myself not staying down on the ball, pulling my head out when it arrives and waiting back on the ball instead of charging it. I am sure my hesitations are a result of the bad hop. Is there anyway to work through this type of thing? I realize this is more of a mental thing than anything but any advice would be appreciated.
Answer
It's always tough get back to speed after an injury like that. You need to control your fear with confidence, rather than be ruled by fear. The best way to do this is to wear face protection during practice and games if needed.
There is a lightweight face guard which doesn't restrict your vision called GameFace. It only cost $35 and can be worn in games as well as practice. If you can't afford that - wear a batting helmet with a face guard during practice until you get your confidence back.
