Pitchers plate

Question
Does the pitchers plate area extend towards home plate? My question comes from the rule stating the pitchers pivot foot shall remain in contact with the pitchers plate (8.01(h)). Rule (8.01(s)) allows for the foot to be dragged as long as it remains in contact with the ground. Does this mean the ground in front of the pitchers plate that they are dragging on is still considered the pitchers plate?
Thanks for your help!
Answer
HI Doug,
The answer would be no. The pitcher's plate has a defined size and placement. By rule the pitch must start with either 1 foot (men's) or both feet (women's) in contact with the pitcher's plate.
I'm not sure what rule book you're looking at, under ASA pitching is in chapter 6 and states the pivot foot (men's) or both feet (women's) "must remain in contact with the pitcher's plate prior to the forward step"
One part of what defines a legal pitch is allowing the foot to be dragged. The pitch has already started and a step is allowed.
Let me know if you need anything more.
