Question
Mr. Ambrose,

My question today is concerning the batters box.  I would like to know what the exact deminsions are suppose to be from front to back, including distance away from the plate and then what the rules are regarding the batters placement inside the box.  Can his feet be on the lines, are the lines part of the box, etc.  This is an on going problem in our ASA Co-Ed league in NC where we have half rate umpires that really dont know the rules but are out there for an authority trip.  Any help would be greatley appreciated.

Answer
Hi Larry,
the batter's box is 3' by 7', the inside lines are 6" from home plate.  The front of the box shall be 4' in front of a line drawn through the center of the plate.  The lines are considered as being within the batter's box.

As long as any part of the feet are touching any part of the line you are in the box.
