Question
One question on a rule....

Team had 9 players, 1 of those 9 was able to play the field but was not able to bat (nongame injury). When that player's turn came around in the line-up, and she could not bat, should that have been an out?

Which ASA rule applies?

Thanks!!!

Answer
HI Rose,

Unless local rules differ under ASA....

In slow pitch this would not be allowed as 9 players must bat.  They would either forfeit or the player could bat, take 3 bad swings and sit down.

In fp at least 8 must bat so it would be legal and an out would be taken in the player's position.

In either case I don't understand how they can play defense but but be able to bat.
