swaping positions

2016/7/15 17:57:49

Question
Can you swap players to different positions in the same inning and not call a time out repeatedly. example: moving 3rd baseman to left field when a good batter is up and then when a weaker batter is up she will move back to 3rd in the same inning. No time outs are being called. Pitcher is instructed to wait until players are in position. Taking up time.

Answer
Thanks for the question!

I looked long and hard and could not find anything against this practice.  The only thing I could say is that if the coach is coming out on to the field, you could have a defensive conference.  But from what you're saying, they're just swapping back and forth.  I can't seem to find an ASA rule against this practice.  If it gets out of hand the umpire could say that they're making a travesty of the game.  Aside from that, I can't find anything wrong, using the rule book, with their defensive changes.
