STEPPING ON HOME PLATE

2016/7/15 17:56:47

Question
In a recent game my team was called out two times for a batter stepping on or dragging his foot across home plate after he hit the ball and was on his way to first base. I understand not being able to leave the batters box hit the ball but accidentally stepping on home base seems like someone bending and obscure rule to suit their needs. please clear this up for me. Lynn

Answer
Hi Lynn.
that is wrong and protestable as a mis-application of the playing rules.

You cannot step on the plate with any part of your foot while making contact with the ball but after you hit the ball you can jump up and down on the plate, roll all over it like a dog, have tea on it for all I care (and the rules care), well maybe not tea.

If it happens again, protest the game.
