not touching home plate?

Question
At a recent girls fastpitch game (ASA rules)  my daughter crosses home plate.  The umpire tells the catcher the runner didn't touch base so the catcher inturn tags my daughter and the umpire calls her out.  My question is, is the umpire allowed to tell the other team a girl didn't touch a base.  I was under the understanding that the umpire was not allowed to say anything unless the other team appealed the play, or tagged the girl on their own because they knew she didn't touch

Answer
Thanks for the question!

An umpire should never tip off to a player that something weird or strange has happened.  What is taught is that the umpire is supposed to hesistate for a second then call the runner safe.  Then the catcher on appeal can challenge whether or not the runner touched home plate.  To take all guesswork out out of the play, the runner should always touch the bases.  The worst thing a player or team can do is leave the game in an umpire's hands.

I hope this helps answer your question, if not please reply!
