Batter-Runner giving up

Question
After the batter has successfully hit a ball into fair play does not attempt to run to first base but rather heads towards the dug out. The batter-runner makes it approx. 10 feet towards the third base dugout before he realizes the ball that was hit will drop without being caught. Should the batter-runner be called out for intentionally leaving the designated base path?

BTW - This happened in ASA Men's Slow Pitch Rule.

Hi Dan,

The answer is no, we do not have an out unless they enter the team area or dugout. They can do what you said, run to 1st and if they make it safely...no problem. There is no base path unless a play (almost always a tag play) is being made on the runner.
