Warning for throwing bat

Question
During my slow pitch softball game a batter on the opposing team was warned for throwing her bat. If a player is issued a warning and she continues to throw her bat is there any rule that the batter should be out or can she be ejected from the game.
Answer
Hi Joan,
There is no penalty. The batter can be warned but there is nothing in the rule book which would allow the umpire to enforce an out or ejection.
This is coming from an umpire who had his kneecap cracked by a thrown bat a # of years ago. I couldn't umpire for a month.
If the bat is thrown is anger we can get an ejection. If a bat is thrown and it interferes with a play we can get an out for interference.
IMHO there neeeds to be a change for safety but I just enforce the rule book not make it.
