sliding head first or madatory slide if play

2016/7/15 17:54:56

Question
Richard,

My daughter recently started 13-15year old softball league. Under UFHS guidelines, is there any rule against sliding head first into any base?
Or, is there a "mandatory" slide if there is a play on any base?

Learning,
Justin Harrison

Answer
Thanks for the question!

Sorry but I've never heard of UFHS rules.  In ASA, NFHS (High School Federation), and NCAA this is no rule about sliding any which way.  The only rule says that a base runner can not run over a defensive player.

However the league you play in can adopt local rules regarding sliding.  When I played Little League Baseball, we had a rule that required us to slide when there was a close play.

I hope this helps answer your question.  If not please reply!
