3rd Base- Softball

Question
I just started to play 3rd base and I have a few questions: If there is a person 1nd base, and a batter is up, which base do i throw to 1st base or  2nd? Who do I throw to if the bases are loaded?
Thanks

Answer
Thanks for the question!

It depends on the situation.  If there is a runner on first and that runner took off for second on a hit-n-run or a steal attempt, you have almost no chance of getting her out so throw to first.  If she took off with the hit of the ball, you should have a better chance and may want to go to second.  Cutting down the runner closest to home is what you want to do most of the time because it makes it harder for the other team to score.  Sometimes, if you can't get that done, then take an out.

If the bases are loaded, throw to home for the force out, if you can't get the throw home then step on third and maybe throw to first to get a double play.

I hope this helps answer your question, if not please reply!
