Question
ASA, Mens' D League, Steals and 2 HRs allowed.
We have an outfielder that moves up and plays behind second base as a Rover. What are the rules governing his positioning before and after the ball has been hit. I have been told he can't be in the "dirt" or he has to be behind the SS & 2nd baseman. Please clarify with a rule number if you can. Thanks.
Answer
Hi Trey,
You state this is Men's D so as long as this is not co-ed this is legal.
There is no rule about defensive postions in men's or women's. My team won 2 "A" state championships in '94 and '96 and a regional "A" and placed in the Nationals in '96 and we always played a "5" man infield. Many teams in our part of the country now do. That means there are only 3 outfielders (they better be gazelles).
Absolutely legal and the defensive player(s) can be anywhere they want.
