Question
yes but the defense players are outside the baseline.. and i preferr the old way make contact if you are the runner.. i think this rule sucks to the judgement of the ump who gives way to the team yelling the loudest..?this was a work of skill like the [pros shetfield ruuning in from left field to tag a ruuner cught between third and home..

Answer -
Hi Tyronne,
When you get that many players involved in a run down obstruction can happen pretty easily, the runner only needs to be hindered by someone w/out the ball, there need not be contact.
As the ball, defensive players and the runner are going back and forth should the runner suddenly reverse direction and a defensive player w/out the ball is there, we have obstruction.

Answer
Hi again Tyronne,
I didn't say there was obstruction, only that in rundown situations it can happen. I would obviously need to see the play.
If you had obstruction on that play it should have been called before the out. ie the umpire should have had their left arm extended sideways (delayed dead ball) when they thought the obstruction occured. The arm should be left out there long enough for the players to see that the umpire observed the act. It shouldn't have anything to do with "chatter" after the fact. It was either called during the play or it wasn't.
