Question
i know there are no balks in little league, however, are there balks in college play, or if you throw an illegal pitch and runners advance, i personnally would call it a balk?
now for the question of the day !!! does a pitcher have to release the pitch while her foot is in contact with the rubber....rule 8.05 of the williamsport little league rule atates this clearly... this question has nothing to do with the crow hop... some people seem to think that she can release the ball while she is dragging her foot and obviously off the rubber...and if it is an illegal pitch, what happens if you have base runners... is the ball considered a ball and do the runners advance?according to the book, you must release the ball only when in contact with the rubber/// thank-you
Answer
For college softball there are no balks. There is only an illegal pitch. Runners cannot come off the base until the ball leaves the pitcher's hand. NO, your foot does not have to be in contact with the rubber when the pitcher releases the ball. My back foot drags as I am releasing. If there is an illegal pitch, the pitch is treated as a ball and the runners advance. I'm not too sure about your league rules...but for ASA and college softball, your foot is not on the rubber when you release the ball. Ok, I hope this helps!
