Pitcher backing up 3rd base

2016/7/15 17:51:06

Question
Who's responsibility is it to back up third base?  My daughter is playing little league 9/10 allstars. She is a pitcher and they have her leaving the mound to cover infield positions during a play - is that correct.  Last year during the tournaments, the pitchers generally stayed withing the pitching cirle because in little league, if the pitcher has the ball within the circle play stops.  any help would be great

My husband is coaching the team and he has the pitcher backing up a throw on a play at 3rd and home - is this correct.

Answer
Hello Vicki

All players have back-up responsibilities. It抯 reasonable to have the pitcher back-up throws to 3rd from the outfield however I always had the 1st baseman go to back up throws to home (after any opportunities to make plays at 1st naturally).
