bating

Question
i was wondering in fast pitch, when you bat, do you take a little step with your front foot in the batter's box before the pitch is made?

Answer
This little step you are talking about is the "load."  Some people do it and some people don't.  For a while I never took a step and now I take a little one.  It really does not matter either way.  The thing that matters is that you have taken some sort of load before the pitch comes.  This can be taking a little step or just moving a little weight back like a spring getting ready to snap.  When people are learning how to hit, sometimes we tell them to not take a step because they are not getting that foot back down before it's time to hit.  This causes them to be late.
