Question
My daughter plays center field for a highschool team. Her coach wants her to "get the ball in quicker". She hesitates in doing this because her accuracy suffers when she takes less time with a throw. How do I get her to throw quickly but with accuracy?
Answer
Hello Katie
To develop quick, accurate throws she must have proper throwing mechanics and throwing rhythm. If it抯 a mechanics issue she may need to work with a coach that can help correct a poor throwing habit.
She should always be in the ready position for each pitch. She must always be aware of the situation, outs, runners, score, what to do with the ball if it is hit to her. She should know all this before the ball is hit, so that she doesn抰 have to think about it as the ball is approaching her.
She should work on catching the ball in front or to her throwing side so she can make a quick release of the ball to an infielder.
If she feel that she needs to have a running start toward the target to achieve an accurate throw have her work on the outfielders crow hop throw. You can find an illustration of the crow hop technique as well as many other outfielder tips at this link:

The keys are being mentally prepared each play and proper throwing mechanics.
