Question
A ball hit to short right and the second baseman chases after it. The ball might go foul if he does not get to it, but he does. His feet are in fair territory and the ball tips off his glove and goes into foul territory, is this a fair or foul ball? This is an asa league. Thank you for your help in this.

Answer
Hi Blayne,

Everything depends on where the ball is when it is first touched, it does not matter where the player is.

If the ball is in fair territory when 1st touched it is a fair ball regardless of where it lands.  Likewise if the ball is in foul territory when 1st touched it is a foul ball reardless of where it lands.

It sounds to me the ball in your question was 1st touched while it was in fair territory, so it would be a fair ball.
